Troubleshooting
Causes
The /usr/lib/uucp/devices file is not
setup correctly.
A lock file exists in the /usr/spool/uucp
directory.
The dial-out port cannot be opened.
Cause
The number of ports and the
processes increase after installing the
MUX cards. Because of the increase
in work load, system crashes or
panics.
Actions
Edit /usr/lib/uucp/devices to include an
entry for the /dev/culnpp file created
earlier. For example, add the following
entries in the /dev/culnpp:ACU cul2p5 -
2400 hayesDirect cul2p5 - 2400 direct
If the modem is not in use, remove the
lock file and try again.
Check the /dev directory for the port's
existence, ownership, and permissions.

Action
System kernel parameters may require
modification.
Fine tuning your kernel is site-dependent.
It depends on the number of users on your
system, what applications they are
running, and your computer's hardware
configuration.
See your system administration manuals
for information on how to change the
HP-UX kernel parameters.
