Problems sending faxes

FAX

Cannot send a fax

FAX
Cause
The Alarm lamp is flashing.
The telephone line is connected to
the
jack.
The telephone line type is not set
correctly.
The fax number is not registered
correctly in the directory.
The dialed number is wrong.
There was an error during
transmission.
The recipient's fax machine is not
G3-compatible.
Chapter 14
Set <ECM RX> to <ON>. (See page 171.)
If the sender's fax machine is not ECM-compatible, the fax will be
received in the standard mode without error correction.
Reduce the reception start speed. (See page 171.) If there is a bad line
or connection, reducing the reception start speed may correct the
error.
Contact the sender and check whether his/her fax machine is
operating normally.
If it is flashing, see "When the Alarm lamp flashes," on page 155.
Reconnect to the
jack. (See Set-Up Guide.) When the telephone
line is correctly connected to the machine, the machine stops making
a noise. If you do not hear anything, there is a problem with the
telephone line. Contact your telephone company.
You can still receive faxes even if the telephone line type is not set
correctly. If you can receive but cannot send, check the telephone
line type setting. (See page 83.)
If you are using directory dialing, check that the fax number is
correctly registered. (See page 88.)
Check the number and try dialing again.
• Check the LCD for an error message. (See page 156.)
• Print the ACTIVITY REPORT and check for an error. (See
page 94.)
Check that the recipient's fax machine is G3-compatible. If not, you
will be unable to send faxes.
