This drive is designed to release heat through its case. The surface of the case may become quite hot in normal use. Even when the drive is off, the case may still be warm from standby current. If the power/access LED does not turn off when you turn off your computer, unplug the USB cable from the drive.
My backup program cannot save files to the MiniStation Reformat your MiniStation with NTFS or Mac OS Extended. FAT32 is limited to 4 GB size files. Please refer to the “About Formatting” section below.
35021159-01 2016.06 About Formatting Formatting is the process of preparing a storage device such as a hard drive for use on your computer. To format a drive, refer to the procedures below. Format Types There are several different format types, each compatible with different operating systems. NTFS NTFS formatting is compatible with Windows.
Formatting with NTFS or FAT32 • Use a Windows computer to format drives with NTFS or FAT32. Using a Mac is not recommended for these format types. • Always use DiskFormatter2 to format drives with FAT32. Windows Disk Management will not format drives larger than 32 GB with FAT32.
Windows NTFS (GPT) partitions can be formatted with partitions NTFS (Windows 8.1, 8, 7, Vista) larger than 2 TB. Older Windows computers (such as Windows XP) This option is only available when a 3 can't read these partitions.Sector size: 512 bytesPartition style: TB or larger drive is connected.
Mac OS X 10.11 Click to select the Finder. Select Go - Utilities. Double-click Disk Utility. Click the drive to be formatted. Click Erase. Select OS X Extended (Journaled). Select GUID Partition Map. Click Erase.
Click Done. This finishes the formatting process for this product. Exit the Disk Utility. Note: If "Do you want to use Volume_name to back up with Time Machine?" is displayed, you may click Use as Backup Disk and Time Machine will use the drive for backup. If you don't want to use it as a dedicated backup drive, click Cancel.

Click the drive to be formatted. Check the information for the drive to be formatted. Make sure that this is the correct drive that you want to format!

Click Partition. Select 1 Partition. Select the number of partitions that you want to create on the drive. Click Options. Click Apple Partition Map.

Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Click Apply. Click Partition. This finishes the formatting process for this product. Exit the Disk Utility. Note: If "Do you want to use Volume_name to back up with Time Machine?" is displayed, you may click Use as Backup Disk and Time Machine will use the drive for backup.
Overview SecureLockMobile lets you easily secure your data with AES encryption. No installation is necessary, as you can run the software directly from your Buffalo drive. This software is for Windows. Create an encryption box. Copy data to encryption box.

Click Next. Enter a name for the encryption box. Click Next. To choose a different location for the encryption box, click Browse. (1) Move the slide bar to choose a capacity of the encryption box. (2) Select the encryption strength.

(3) Click Next. Enter the password twice (use 1 to 63 alphanumeric characters). Click Next. If desired, enter a password hint. Click Next.
Click OK to create an encryption box. This may take some time. Estimated time to create an encryption box is about 40 seconds per gigabyte with a USB 2.0 connection. Do not exit SecureLockMobile until the screen in step 9 is displayed. When the screen below is displayed, creating the encryption box is complete.
Click Encryption Box – New Box. Repeat steps 3-9 from the front page. 3. Store Data in the Encryption Box Drag files into the encryption box to encrypt them. Files in the encryption box will not be accessible to other people. Drag files to encrypt.
Click OK. You can specify the encryption box by clicking the browse button. (1) Click the target data in the encryption box. (2) Click Decrypt and specify the data folder. Follow the instructions on the screen to specify the location to save the retrieved data. The decrypted data is copied to the PC.
Notes If an encryption box has a capacity greater than 4GB, data will be stored in multiple files. Each file will be named filename.xxx, where xxx is a number. If any of these files are deleted, then you will not be able to open the encryption box.
TurboPC EX optimizes transfer speeds for hard drives by caching data in your computer's RAM. • TurboPC EX works with the internal hard drives and in your computer, as well the Buffalo product that it was packaged with. Other drives and devices may not benefit from TurboPC EX.
35011275-08 2016.06 Backup Utility (For Windows) Backup Utility is a software to back up and restore data from your PC. This software is for Windows. Features • Back up drives Backs up all data on a selected drive. You can specify which files and folders are backed up from the configuration screen.

Enter a name for the backup, or just leave the default name in the window. Click Next.

Check the source drives that you want to back up. Click Next...

Select a target drive to back up to. Click Next. Notes: • The target drive should be a compatible Buffalo external hard drive connected to your computer. • If your external hard drive is not visible as a target choice, check that the drive is connected to your computer correctly and click [Refresh].

You may choose to not back up some folders. Click Add to select folders. Selected folders will not be backed up. Click Next.

Choose a time to run the backup job. Click Next. If you configure the backup job to run at a specified interval, your computer must be powered on at the specified time for the backup job to run.
Click Finish. The wizard will ask you if the current time is correct. If it is not, correct the time settings in your computer and reconfigure the backup job. Backup Jobs After configuration, the backup job runs automatically at the specified interval. You do not have to initiate it. However, the backup job will not be performed if the backup destination drive is disconnected or if the computer is in energy-saving mode when the backup is scheduled.
Restoring Data from a Backup To restore data from a backup, follow the steps below. Right-click on the icon in the system tray and select Run Recovery Tool. Select the time and date on which data you want to recover was backed up. Select the folders and files you want to restore.
