    About This Manual • The instructions in this manual describe the controls on the remote. You can also use the controls on the system if they have the same or similar names as those on the remote. • The Control Menu items may be different depending on the area.

    Getting Started – BASIC – See Unpacking in Specifications, page 89. Inserting batteries into the remote You can control the system using the supplied remote. Insert two R6 (size AA) batteries by matching the 3 and # ends on the batteries to the markings inside the compartment. When using the remote, point it at the remote sensor on the system.

    Step 1: Connecting the System and TV This hookup is the basic connection of the system to the speakers and TV. For other TV connections, see page 23. For other component connection, see page 28. To accept progressive signals, see page 26. To obtain the best possible front surround sound, install the speakers in the proper position (page 17), and use the supplied Setup Disc to determine the ideal speaker positions (page 21).

    1 Connecting the Speakers Required cords You can connect the system and speakers with this one cord. To the system Note • Do not connect any speakers other than those supplied with this system. • By connecting an extension cord (not supplied) to the respective jack(s) of the speaker cord, you can extend the length of the cord.

    Step 2: Installing the Speakers For the best possible front surround sound, position the speakers as illustrated below. Side view 0.6 m (2 ft) ~ Positioning the speakers The effective area of surround sound will vary depending on the sound field selection (FOCUS SURROUND or WIDE STAGE).

    Getting Started – ADVANCED – TV Hookup (Advanced) Select a hookup suitable for the jacks on your TV. Connecting the video/audio/HDMI* cords Sends a played back DVD image to a TV (video connection), and sends a TV sound to the system (audio connection).

The DVI (digital visual interface) jack will not accept any audio signals. Furthermore, you cannot connect the HDMI OUT (high-definition multimedia interface out) jack to DVI (digital visual interface) jacks that are not HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection) compliant (e.g., DVI (digital visual interface) jacks on PC displays).

Discs that the system can play You can play back DATA CDs (CD-ROMs/CD- Rs/CD-RWs) or DATA DVDs (DVD-Rs/DVD- RWs/DVD+Rs/DVD+RWs/DVD-ROMs) recorded in MP3 (MPEG1 Audio Layer 3) or JPEG format.
