Removing a PCI Option Board

Note:
vacant slots to maintain the electromagnetic emissions
characteristics of the system and to assure proper cooling of
the system components.
1. Remove the system front bezel and top cover as described earlier in this
chapter.
2. Ensure the server is powered down and the ac cable is disconnected.
3. Ensure the LED located on the PCI I/O board is OFF.
4. Tag and disconnect any cables attached to installed option boards.
5. Grasp each side of the frame of the PCI I/O board and pull upwards to
disconnect and remove it from the system board. See figure 4-23.
6. Remove and save the option board retaining bracket screw.
7. Hold the board at each end and carefully rock it back and forth until the edge
connectors pull free. Make sure that you do not scrape the board against
other components.
8. Remove the board from the expansion slot and place it in an antistatic
wrapper. If you are replacing a board, go to "Installing a PCI Option Board"
found earlier in this chapter, otherwise continue.
9. Install an expansion slot cover over the vacant slot using the previously
removed screw.
10. Install the PCI I/O board into the system board. Refer to Steps 14 and 15 and
Figures 4-28 and 4-29 in "Installing a PCI Option Board" found in the
previous section of this chapter.
11. Connect any external cables (if they are needed) to all installed option
boards.
12. Replace the top cover.
13. Plug in the server power cord, and power on the server.
14. Slide the server into the system rack and secure it to the rack.
15. Install and secure the front bezel following procedures described earlier in
this chapter.
