7. Connect the cables to the new converter board. Position the new converter board on the chassis so
that the two screw holes in the new converter board are aligned with those in the computer. Install the
two screws to secure the new converter board to the main bracket.

8. Reinstall the optical drive. See "Replacing the optical drive" on page 84.

Installing or replacing a memory module

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
2 "Safety information" on page 3.
This section provides instructions on how to install or replace a memory module.
Your computer has two memory slots for installing or replacing double data rate 3 small outline dual inline
memory modules (DDR3 SODIMMs). When installing or replacing a memory module, use 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB,
or 8 GB DDR3 SODIMMs in any combination up to a maximum of 16 GB of system memory.
To install or replace a memory module, do the following:
1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect
all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer.
2. Place a soft, clean towel or cloth on the desk or other flat surface. Hold the sides of your computer and
gently lay it down so that the screen is against the surface and the cover is facing up.
3. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover" on page 79.
4. Remove the system board shield. See "Removing and reinstalling the system board shield" on page 85.
5. Locate the memory slots on the system board. See "Locating parts on the system board" on page 73.
6. Remove any parts and disconnect any cables that might prevent your access to the memory slots.
