This player can play AVCHD format discs.

• What is the AVCHD format?
The AVCHD format is a high-definition digital
video camera format used to record SD (standard
definition) or HD (high definition) signals of either
the 1080i specification*

or the nop
specification*2 on DVDs, using efficient data
compression coding technology. The MPEG-4
A VC/H.264 format is adopted to compress video
data, and the Dolby Digital or Linear PCM system
is used to compress audio data. The MPEG-4 A VCI
H.264 format is capable of compressing images at
higher efficiency than that of the conventional
image compressing format. The MPEG-4 A VCI
H.264 format enables a high definition (HD) video
signal shot on a digital video camera recorder to be
recorded on DVD discs, in the same way as it would
be for a standard definition (SD) television signal.

• Some AVCHD format discs may not play,
depending on the recording condition.
• The AVCHD format disc will not play if it has not
been correctly finalized.
Output resolution differs depending on the "Output Video Format" setting in the "Screen
Settings" setup (page 44).

For Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio,
set "HDMI Resolution" of "Output Video
Format" to other than "480i" or "480p" in the
"Screen Settings" setup (page 44).
*2 Protected content on DVDs are output at 480p
resolution.
• When "Output Video Format" is set to
"Video"
480i video signals are output from the LINE
OUT VIDEO or COMPONENT VIDEO
jack, and 480p video signals are output from
the HDMI OUT jack.
