    Wireless-G ADSL Gateway Chapter 1: Introduction Welcome Thank you for choosing the Wireless-G ADSL Gateway. This Gateway will provide your computers with a high- speed Internet connection as well as resources, including files and printers. Since the Gateway is wireless, Internet access can be shared over the wired network as well as the wireless broadcast at up to 11Mbps for Wireless-B or up to 54Mbps for Wireless-G.

    Wireless-G ADSL Gateway Chapter 2: Planning Your Network The Gateway’s Functions A Gateway is a network device that connects two networks together. In this instance, the Gateway connects your Local Area Network (LAN), or the group of computers in your home or office, to the Internet.

If not, you can call your ISP to request that data. After you have the setup information you need for your specific type of Internet connection, you can begin installation and setup of the Gateway.

Network Address Translation (NAT) translates multiple IP addresses on the private LAN to one public address that is sent out to the Internet. This adds a level of security since the address of a computer connected to the private LAN is never transmitted on the Internet.

Force your Ethernet adapter to 10Mbps or half duplex mode, and turn off the “Auto-negotiate” feature of your Ethernet adapter as a temporary measure.

  • Page 71 Wireless-G ADSL Gateway How do I reset the Gateway? Press the Reset button on the back panel for about ten seconds. This will reset the Gateway to its default settings. How do I resolve issues with signal loss? There is no way to know the exact range of your wireless network without testing. Every obstacle placed between the Gateway and a wireless computer will create signal loss.

    Wireless-G ADSL Gateway Appendix B: Wireless Security Linksys wants to make wireless networking as safe and easy for you as possible. The current generation of Linksys products provide several network security features, but they require specific action on your part for implementation.
