Before you get started, if you are using Windows
®
95/98, it would be a good idea
for you to do the following two things:
1) Copy your "MSCDEX.EXE" file to floppy diskette
2) Download Kenwood's DOS Driver (available at http://www.kenwoodtech.com)
These files are not required to make your CD-ROM drive function, but you will
need them in the event that you need to reinstall the operating system. We recom-
mend that you copy all of the files on a single floppy and put it in a safe place.
The MSCDEX.EXE file is Microsoft's CD-ROM Extensions program. To find it,
simply click on the "Start" button, select "Find" then "Files or Folders". When the
"Find" window appears, type MSCDEX.EXE and click "Find Now". Once the file
is located you can copy it to a floppy diskette. The Kenwood Driver is available at
our web site (http://www.kenwoodtech.com/tech_support) in the Technical Support
Downloads section.
Step 1: BACKING UP YOUR SYSTEM
Throughout this installation guide, we will try to alert you to the most common
obstacles, but some issues may be unpredictable. It is suggested that before you
make any changes to your system, you should make a complete backup of any
important data that you have. This way, in the unlikely event of a problem, you
should be able to restore your machine back to the previous condition
without difficulty.
To back up your data, you should refer to your computer's documentation. This
process may involve copying files to a disk drive or using a back up program to
put files onto a removable medium, for example, tape or Zip® drives. If you are
running Windows® 95/98, try Microsoft's backup utility.
