    SFP+ ports can be populated with optical or copper transceiver modules or Direct-Attach Cables (DACs). The G7028 has rear-to-front airflow. It is 1U in height and can be mounted horizontally or vertically, depending on your application. Mounting options are available for a variety of rack systems.

    This chapter describes the G7028 hardware components. Switch Unit The G7028 is a 1U rack-mountable GbE switch with rear-to-front airflow. You can mount the switch in either the horizontal or vertical orientation. The following illustrations show the features on the front and rear of the switch.

    To connect a computer or terminal to the switch using the included kit, first connect one end of the Category 5 patch cable to the RJ-45 serial port on the G7028, then connect the other end of the patch cable to the RJ-45-to-DB9 adapter (see the following illustration).

    Activity RJ-45 Ports There are twenty-four 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) RJ-45 ports on the front of the G7028. To attach an RJ-45 connector to the switch, push the RJ-45 cable connector into the port connector until it clicks into place.

    If there is a failure of one or more fans, the front panel Fan LED flashes. Power Supply The rear panel of the G7028 has two power connectors. The IEC 320 power connector is for primary AC power when attached to a universal grounded AC power source.

    Installing the Air-Duct Option The G7028 supports an optional 1U air duct to maximize air flow conditions in a 19” rack. For information on removing an installed 1U air-duct option, see “Removing the Air-Duct Option” on page The following table lists the parts included with the air-duct option kit.
