Using the timers/Auto-off function

You can set the timer to come on at a certain time to wake you
up (play timer) or to record a radio station or from the external
source (record timer). The play and record timers cannot be
used together.
• Turn the unit on and set the clock.
• For the play timer, prepare the desired music source;
cassette, CD, radio, external or USB, and set the volume.
• For the record timer, check the cassette's erasure
prevention tabs ( Erasure prevention, page 26) and
insert the tape in the deck ( Cassette tapes — Play and
Recording, page 25). Tune to the radio station ( The radio,
page 25) or select the external source ( Using the Music
Port and Using an external unit, page 31).

Press [CLOCK/TIMER] to select the timer function.
Every time you press the button:
CLOCK
zPLAY
Previous display
zPLAY: to set the play timer
zREC: to set the record timer

(Within 7 seconds or so)
ON time setting
 Press [u, 2/REW] or [i, 1/FF] to set the start time.
 Press [CLOCK/TIMER] to confirm.
OFF time setting
Repeat step  and .

Press [zPLAY/REC] to display the timer indicator.
zPLAY: to turn the play timer on
zREC: to turn the record timer on
(The indicator does not appear if the start and finish times or
the clock have not been set.)

Press [^] to turn the unit off. The unit must be off for the
timers to operate.
To change the settings
Do steps 1, 2 and 4. ( above)
To change the source or volume
When the unit is on

Press [zPLAY/REC] to clear the timer indicator from the
display.

Make changes to the source or volume.

Do steps 3 to 4. ( above)
To check the settings
Press [CLOCK/TIMER] while the unit is on to select "zPLAY" or
"zREC".
The settings are shown in the following order:
Play timer: start time  finish time  source  volume
Record timer: start time  finish time  source
When the unit is off

Press [CLOCK/TIMER].

During the clock display, press [CLOCK/TIMER] again.
If you use the unit after the timers are set
After using, check that the correct tape or disc is loaded before
turning the unit off.
To cancel the timer
Press [zPLAY/REC] to clear the timer indicator from the
display.
