STARTING
THE ENGINE
Donotoperatethetractorif theinterlock system is malfunctioning.
Thissystemwasdesigned for yoursafety andprotection.
NOTE:Refer to theGasoline andOilfill-upinstructions earlierin this
section.
1. Insertthetractorkeyintotheignitionswitch.
2.
PlacethePTO(BladeEngage) l everin thedisengaged ( OFF)
position.
3.
Engage thetractor'sparking brake.
4,
Activate thechokecontrol b ymoving thethrottle/choke leverall
the wayup intothechokeposition.
5. Turntheignitionkeyclockwise totheSTART position. A fterthe
enginestarts,releasethekey.It willreturnto theON(or Normal
Mowing) p osition.

Aftertheengine starts,deactivate thechoke controlandplacethe
throttlecontrolin theFAST position.
NOTE:DoNOTleavethechoke controlon whileoperating thetractor.
Doingsowill resultin a "rich"fuelmixtureandcausetheengineto run
poorly.

thedisengaged (OFF)position.

Remove thekeyfromtheignitionswitch to prevent u nintended
starting.
DRIVING
THE TRACTOR
Avoidsuddenstarts,excessive speedandsuddenstops.

thebrakepedalandengaging theparking brake.If leavingthetractorJ
unattended, alsoturntheignitionkeyoffand remove thekey.

I Always lookdownandbehindbefore and whilebacking up to avoida

1.
Depress thebrakepedalto release theparkingbrakeandlet the
pedalup.
2.
Move the throttle l everintotheFAST (rabbit)position.
3.
Placetheshiftleverin eithertheFORWARD or REVERSE
position.
IMPORTANT:DoNOTusethe shiftlevertochangethedirection
oftravelwhenthetractorisin motion. A lwaysusethebrakepedalto
bringthetractortoa complete stop beforeshifting.
4.
Release theparking brakebydepressing theclutch-brake pedal
and positioning thespeedcontrolleverindesiredposition.
IMPORTANT:First-time o perators shouldusespeedpositions 1 or
2. Become completely f amiliar withthetractor's operation andcontrols
before operating thetractorin higher speedpositions.
5.
Release clutch-brake pedalslowlyto putunitintomotion.
6.
Thelawntractorisbro_Jght to a stopbydepressing theclutch-
brakepedal.
NOTE:Whenoperating theunitinitially, t herewillbe littledifference
between thehighest t wo speeds untilafterthebeltshaveseated
themselves i ntothepulleys duringthebreak-in period.
Before leavingtheoperator's p ositionforanyreason, d isengage the
blades, p lacetheshiftleverin neutral, e ngage theparkingbrake,
shutengine off andremove thekey.
IMPORTANT:Whenstopping thetractorforanyreason whileon a
grasssurface, a lways:
1. Placetheshiftleverin neutral,
2.
Engage theparking brake,
3.
Shutengine off andremove thekey.Doingsowillminimize the
possibility of having yourlawn"browned"byhotexhaust f rom
yourtractor's running engine.
If unitstallswithspeed controlin highspeed,or if unitwillnotoperate
withspeedcontrolleverin a lowspeedposition, p roceed asfollows:
1.
Placeshiftleverin NEUTRAL.
2.
Restart e ngine.
3.
Placespeedcontrol l everin highestspeedposition.
4.
Release clutch-brake p edalfully.
5.
Depress clutch-brake pedal.
6.
Placespeedcontrol l everin desiredposition.
7.
Placeshiftleverin eitherFORWARD or REVERSE, and follow
normal o perating procedures.
