Upgrading a VA 7100/7400
to a VA 7410/7110
This document describes the steps involved in upgrading a VA 7100 or
VA 7400 array to a VA 7410 or VA 7110 array. This procedure should only
be performed by HP service trained personnel.
Caution
All upgrades to a VA 7410/7110 require a full back up of all
data. The array is reformatted during the upgrade, which will
destroy all data on the array. It is the customer's responsibility to
ensure that all data on the array is backed up before the
upgrade is performed.
The upgrade procedure involves the following steps:

Backup all data on the array.

Gather array configuration information.

Upgrade disk firmware if necessary.
Power down the array.

Upgrade the array hardware.

Configure the upgraded array.

Create the LUN configuration.

Use previously saved data to recreate the host port behavior table and the
Secure Manager table.

Restore all data to the array.

    Preparing for the Upgrade Gather the Required Hardware Components The following hardware components are required when upgrading the array. Before beginning the upgrade, make sure all necessary components are available. The parts involved in the upgrade will vary depending on the magnitude of the upgrade.

  • Page 8 Replace the Disk Enclosure LCCs If the original VA 7400 array included DS 2400 disk enclosures, the LCCs must be replaced with DS 2405 LCCs. Remove both LCCs from the disk enclosure. Go to the Installation Guide and perform step 3 through step 19. Any differences in the steps when performing the upgrade are identified below.
