DESCRIPTION

If your system meets all of the criteria listed in the "scope" section below, the UP kernel may fail to
install, to boot properly, or to start X.

SCOPE:

HP xw8400 Workstation with the following:
NVidia FX4500 graphics
•
SAS controller and SAS disk drive
•
UP kernel and unaccelerated vesa graphics driver configured
•

RESOLUTION

HP recommends one of the following
If the install results in fatal errors installing packages or formatting, then re-start the install using

text mode:
Start your install as you usually would.

The Red Hat Enterprise Linux install boot prompt "boot:_" displays.

At the prompt, type "linux text".

Continue with your install as usual.

After the install, the SMP kernel is booted by default – if you need to boot the UP kernel instead

If this returns "direct rendering: Yes", then you have the accelerated graphics

ii. Install the NVIDIA driver downloaded from the HP Workstation support
X86 or AMD64/EM64T X Configuration with ATI Card May Be Setup
with Low Resolution
DESCRIPTION
When ATI card is present with accelerated driver, the X config file may have been setup with a
smaller than expected resolution.
SCOPE
HP Workstations with ATI graphics and accelerated ATI fglrx_6_8_0-8.25.10-6 driver.
NOTE: To check the installed ATI RPM version, execute 'rpm -qa | grep fglrx'
