SPECIAL MOTOR APPLICATIONS
Multiple Motors
When more than one motor is connected downstream from the TE
Series starter, the internal electronic overload protection cannot provide
proper protection of the individual motors. Codes require the use of
separate OLRs for each motor, which would need to be external devices.
In these instances the TE Series Overload protection should be turned
off, deferring protection to the separate OLRs. Care should be taken to
ensure that the External OLR is properly wired into the starter control
circuit to facilitate shutdown of the motor. The TE Series provides a PTC
input that can be wired to the NC auxiliary contact of the external OLR so
that a trip will still shut down the TE Series and be annunciated on the
display. Multiple OLRs would then be wired in series for the same effect.
See section 4.7.2.a for details on using the PTC input.
