ridingmowerwith fuel in tank indoors or in poorly
ventilated areaswhere fuel fumes mayreachan openflame, spark,or pilot
lightason afurnace,water heater,clothesdryer,or gasappliance.
Riding MowerStorage
If yourridingmowerisnot goingto beoperatedforanextendedperiodof time
(thirty daysto approximately s ixmonths), t he ridingmowershouldbeprepared for
storage. S tore the ridingmowerinadry andprotected location.If storedoutside,
coverthe ridingmower(includingthe tires)to protectit from the elements. T he
procedures o utlinedbelowshouldbeperformed whenever the ridingmoweris
placedinstorage.
1.
Change theengineoil andfilter following the instructions provided in the
Service a ndMaintenance s ectionofthismanual.
Neverstore the riding mower with fuel in the tank indoors or in poorly
ventilatedendosures,where fuel fumesmay reachan openflame, sparkor
pilot light asonafurnace,water heater,dothes dryer,etc.
If storingthe ridingmowerfor 30daysor more:
a.
Toprevent g umdeposits fromforminginside t heengine's carburetor
andcausing possible malfunction of theengine, t he fuelsystem must
beeithercompletely e mptied, o r thegasoline mustbetreatedwitha
stabilizer to prevent d eterioration.

Fuelleft in the fuel tank deterioratesandwill causeseriousstarting
problems.
b.
Usingafuelstabilizer:
Read the productmanufacturer's i nstructions and
recommendations.
Addto clean,freshgasoline the correct a mountof stabilizerforthe
capacity (approximately 3 gallons) o f the fuelsystem.
Fillthe fuel tankwith treatedfuel andrunthe enginefor 2-3
minutes to get stabilizedfuelinto the carburetor.
c.
Emptying the fuel system:
Priorto putting the ridingmowerin storage, m onitorfuel
consumption withthe goal ofrunningthe fuel tankempty.
Startthe engineandallowit to runout of fuel.Thiswill preventgum
andvarnish deposits fromforming.
Remove t he sparkplugsandpourapproximately oneounce of oil into each
cylinder. C rank the engineoneor two turnsto spreadtheoil evenly on the
cylinderwalls.Replace t he sparkplugs.
Clean the engineandtheentireridingmowerthoroughly.
NOTE: Use of apressure washer or gardenhoseisnot recommended t o
cleanyourridingmower.Theymaycause damage to electrical c omponents,
spindles, p ulleys, b earings or the engine.Theuseof waterwill resultin
shortened lifeandreduce serviceability.
5.
Sharpen t he blades sothatthe mowerwill beready to usewhenneeded.
6.
Protect t he metalsurfaces. Repair s cratches w ith the appropriate touch-up
spraypaint.Brush a rustpreventive oil on anyunpaintedsurfaces i ncluding
the pulleys andblades. ( Becareful n ot to getanyoil on the drivebelts.)
7.
Clean andfully charge the battery,thendisconnect the negative cableat
the batteryto prevent p ossible discharge. R echarge t he batteryperiodically
whenin storage.
NOTE: Remove the batteryif exposed to prolongedperiods of sub-freezing
temperatures. Storeinacool,dry locationwheretemperatures areabove
freezing.
8.
Lubricate all lubricationpoints.
9.
Jack the mowerup andstoreit on blocks to takethe weightoffof the tires.
Removingthe RidingMowerfrom Storage
1.
Check t he engineoil.
2.
Fullycharge the battery,lower ridingmoweroff blocks, a ndinflate the tires
to the recommended p ressure.
3.
Remove t he sparkplugsandwipethem off. Usingthe starter, c rankthe
engineto pumpthe excess o il out of the sparkplug holes.Replace t he spark
plugsandthe ignition leads.
4.
Ifdrainedbefore storing,fill the fueltank withclean,freshgasoline.
5.
Check t he levelof the engineoil inthe crankcase a ndthe hydraulic reservoir
tank.
6.
Startthe engineandallowto idle for afewminutesto ensureengineis
operatingproperly.
7.
Drive the ridingmowerwithouta loadto makecertainall the ridingmower
systems arefunctioningproperly.
