The rear of the MSA 2040 is the same for both MSA
2040 models.

Prepare for the installation

Locate required items
The following items will be shipped with the MSA
2040:
HP MSA 2040 chassis. LFF and SFF chassis are
supported.
Drives
Rack mounting kit
Mini-USB CLI cable
PDU power cords
HP MSA 2040 SW Support and Documentation
DVD
Other items you may need:
Screwdrivers (Phillips)
Antistatic protection device
Expansion drive enclosures and cables
Servers that need access to the MSA 2040
Switch
Cables for connecting to the host
RJ-45 Ethernet cable for connecting to a remote
management host

Access from a workstation on the server to the
MSA 2040 (to access the SMU and validate host
connections)
Access to the Internet (to access HP websites for
the latest QuickSpecs, user documents, and
firmware)
Obtain the latest user documents
Locate MSA 2040 user guides to help with the
planning, installation, and configuration processes.
User documents are available on the DVD shipped
with the MSA 2040, with the most recent versions on
the MSA 2040 website at
msa2040/Manuals.
Confirm support for your hardware and software
components
Confirm that the devices you plan to connect and their
installed firmware and software versions are supported
for use with each other. The latest support information
is available on the HP Single Point of Connectivity
Knowledge (SPOCK) website at
storage/spock.
Verify the operating environment
Review the HP MSA 2040 User Guide and ensure that
all environmental requirements are met, including site
wiring and electrical power inputs, ventilation and
cooling, and weight considerations.

Install the MSA 2040

Use the following steps to install your MSA 2040. For
more information, see the HP MSA 2040 User Guide.
Step 1. Install device into the rack
Use the instructions provided with the rack mounting
kits or other devices to rack the MSA 2040, expansion
drive enclosures, switches, and servers.
WARNING!
to lift a fully populated MSA 2040 or expansion
drive enclosure into the rack. If the enclosure is
being loaded into the rack above chest level, a
third person must assist with aligning the
enclosure with the rails, while the other two
people support the weight of the enclosure.
