Standbehindthe reservoirtank to operatethe controlhandleand

Attachthe couplerhitchto a class I or higher2" ball on a towing
vehicle.Latchsecurely.
a.
If the couplerhitch does notfit on the ball: Turnthe
adjustmentnut locatedunderthe couplerhitch one turn
counter-clockwise.
b.
If the couplerhitch is too looseon the ball:Turntheadjust-
mentnut locatedunderthe couplerhitch one turnclockwise.
6.
Connectthe safetychainsto the towingvehicle.
7.
Plugin thetail lights,if so equipped,to the tail light connectoron
the tow vehicle.

THE LOG SPLITTER
1.
Lowerthe beamto its horizontalposition.Makecertainthe beam
is lockedsecurelywith the horizontalbeamlock.
2.
Removespringclip and clevispin from jack stand.
3.
Supportthe tongueand pivotthe jack stand up againstthe
tongue.See Figure15.

OPERATING
TIPS
Always:
1.
Usecleanfluid and checkthefluid levelregularly.
2.
Usean approvedhydraulicfluid. ApprovedfluidsincludeShell
Tellus®32 HydraulicFluid,Dexron®III/ Mercon®automatic
transmissionfluid, Pro-Select
T M
AW-32HydraulicOil or 10WAW-
ISOviscositygrade 32 hydraulicoil.
NOTE:It is not recommended that hydraulicfluids be mixed.
3.
Alwaysensurethat the filter is in place.Cleanor replacethe filter
regularly.
4.
This unit comeswitha breathercap on the fluid reservoir.Do not
useanyothertype of reservoircap.
5.
Makesurethe pumpis mountedand alignedproperly.
6.
This unit comeswitha flexible"spider"type couplingbetween
the engineand pumpdriveshafts. Donot useany othertype of
coupling.
7.
Keepthe hosesclearand unblocked.
8.
Bleedthe air out of the hosesbeforeoperating.
9.
Flush and cleanthehydraulic systembeforerestarting afterservicing.
10. Use"pipedope"on all hydraulicfittings.
11. Allowtime for the engineto warm-upbeforesplittingwood.
12. Primethe pumpbeforethe initial start-upby turningoverthe
enginewith sparkplug disconnected.
13. Splitthewood alongthe grain (lengthwise) o nly.
Never:
1.
Usewhenfluid is below20o F or above 150 o E
2.
Usea solidengine/pump coupling.
3.
Operatethroughreliefvalvefor morethan5 seconds.If the
wedgestopsmovingor reachesthe end of its stroke,releasethe
controlvalve or REVERSE it within5 secondsto avoidputting
stresson the hydraulicsystemand engine.
4.
Attemptto adjust unloadingor reliefvalve settings.
5.
Operatewith air in the hydraulicsystem.
6.
Useteflontape on the hydraulicfittings.
7.
Attemptto cut woodacrossthe grain.
8.
Attemptto removepartiallysplit woodfromthe wedgewith your
hands.Fullyretractthewedgeto dislodgethe woodwith the log
dislodger.
