Fluid and Inlet Filter

Cheekthe hydraulic fluid levelin thelogsplitterreservoirtank
beforeeach use. Maintainfluid level w ithin therangespecifiedon
thedipstickat all times.
,, Changethe hydraulicfluid in the reservoirevery 100hoursof
operation.Followthe stepsbelow:
1. Disconnectthe suctionhosefrom thebottomof the reservoirtank.
2. Carefullyunthreadthe inlet filterand clean it with penetratingoil.
See Figure5-2.
3. Allowthe fluidto drain intoa suitablecontainer.
4. Reinsertthe filter and refillthe reservoirwith three gallonsof
oil.Approvedfluids includeDexron®III/ Mercon®IIIautomatic
transmissionfluid,a 10WeightAWhydraulicoil or Pro-Mix
TM
AW-32HydraulicOil.
,, Maintainfluid levelwithinthe rangespecifiedon the dipstickat all
times.
NOTE:Alwaysdisposeof usedhydraulicfluidand engineoil at
approvedrecyclingcentersonly.
Contaminants in fluid maydamagethe hydrauliccomponents.
Flushingthe reservoirtankand hoseswith kerosenewhenever
serviceis performedon thetank, hydraulicpumpor valve is
recommended. A ny repairto the hydrauliccomponentsshouldbe
performedby a SearsServiceCenter.

10 micronhydraulicfilter.Order partnumber723-0405.
Beam
and
Splitting
Wedge
,, Lubricateboth sidesof the beam(whereit comesintocontactwith
the splittingwedge),beforeeachuse, with engineoil. Thewedge
plateon the log splitteris designedso thegibs on the side of the
wedgeplatecan be removedand rotatedand/orturnedoverfor
evenwear.
,, Makecertain to readjustthe adjustmentbolts so wedgemoves
freely,but no excessspaceexists betweenthe wedgeplateand the
beam.

1. Stopengineand wait severalminutesbeforecheckingoil level.
2. Removeoil fill dipstick.
3. Checkoil levelon dipstick.With engine on levelground,the oil
mustbe to FULL markon dipstick.
4. Replacedipstickand tighten.
Changing
Engine Oil
Only usehigh qualitydetergentoil ratedwith API serviceclassification
SF,SG,or SH. Selectthe oil'sSAEviscositygrade accordingto the
expectedoperatingtemperature. F ollowthe chart below:
