Figure 11-11 • SIMV PCV waveforms
SIMV PCV-VG mode
Synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation with pressure control
volume guaranteed (SIMV PCV-VG) delivers a set rate of pressure
controlled breaths with a guaranteed volume to the patient. The
patient can breathe spontaneously between mandatory breaths.
Pressure support can be used to support the spontaneous breaths.
The mandatory breaths will deliver the set tidal volume using a
decelerating flow and a constant pressure. The ventilator will adjust
the inspiratory pressure needed to deliver the set tidal volume
breath-by-breath so that the lowest pressure is used. The pressure
range that the ventilator will use is between the PEEP + 2 cmH2O
