    Installation Guide Introduction Introduction The RUGGEDCOM WIN5158 subscriber station (also referred to as Customer Premises Equipment) is part of the RUGGEDCOM WIN family, a line of mobile WiMAX broadband wireless access systems based on the IEEE 802.16e mobile WiMAX standard.

    The subscriber station supports both IP convergence sublayer for wireless Internet service providers or Ethernet Convergence Sublayer, ideal for mission critical private networks. Section 1.2 Description The RUGGEDCOM WIN5158 is available in one of two models: • AC Model The AC model receives power from a Siemens-approved PoE injector. • DC Model The DC model receives power directly from a Class 2 power supply.

An outer wall on a roof or other high location to avoid interference from other buildings or trees is preferred.

To achieve minimum RF exposure, install the subscriber station when it is configured not to transmit and set it to operational mode remotely, rather than having a technician enable transmission on-site.

Adjust the position of the antenna until the maximum RSSI link quality reading is achieved. A single RSSI LED indicates the subscriber station is at minimum synchronized with the base station.

    Most outdoor subscriber station, antenna and cable problems are caused by coaxial cable connections loosened by vibration, allowing moisture to penetrate the connector interface. Siemens strongly recommends weatherproofing all outdoor cable connections to prevent the ingress of water and help secure connections.
