    Preface Purpose of the Manual This manual describes the hardware of the SIPROTEC 5 Compact device family and provides general informa- tion on the product structure, the modules and technical data. Target Audience Protection system engineers, commissioning engineers, persons entrusted with the setting, testing and maintenance of automation, selective protection and control equipment, and operational crew in electrical installations and power plants.

All terminals are individually remov- able (Figure 2-11). This enables prewiring of the systems and simple device replacement without costly rewiring.

    Working on the Device 5.2 Battery Battery Description 5.2.1 The battery lies in an externally accessible battery compartment. The battery compartment is located on the bottom of the device. You need not open the device when replacing the battery. If the auxiliary voltage fails, the battery ensures continued operation of the internal clock and storage of certain data (statistical values, values of thermal models) for at least 6 months.

This terminal also enables IEC 61850 Ethernet communication or communication with another protocol via Ethernet, for example, for connecting an external RTD unit.
