Salience III Series Switch Engine
Overview
The switch engine is also called switching route board (SRPG). It is the core of the S6500
high-end multiservice route switch. Huawei launches the Salience III switch engine based
on 10G platform, which brings abundant functions for users. There are multiple types of
Salience III switch engine, Salience III Edge, Salience III and Salience III Plus. The user
can select it according to the actual service environment.
Salience III switch engine and the backplane of other service board connect the bus. It
reserves the GE bus of old version and is added with XGbus. It is completely compatible
with Line Processing Unit (LPU), saves the investment of user, supports the newly
developed service board based on XGbus uplink, provides a higher forwarding
performance and lowers the general cost of user.
In the service feature, the layer-3 virtual interface number of Salience III switch engine
increases to 1024. It supports the CF card, EPON OLT service card and L3+ advanced
service board (provide NAT, Netstream flow collection and statistics and policy route).
Main Characteristics
Advanced System Structure
The switching system based on Salience III switch engine is a layer-3 distributed
switching structure consisting of the central Crossbar on the switching engine, Crossbar in
the interface board and shared memory packet processor.
Each switching engineer includes multiple route engines and one or two large-capacity
Crossbars. The route engine is responsible for the route calculation and synchronization
of system. Crossbar is responsible for across-board service switching. Each interface

  • Page 3 Each interface board is connected to the route engine module on the two switch engines through two special channel, communicating with the route engine module on the main control board, serving as the system management channel and implementing the management and control function.

    2 Load sharing: The Crossbar of two service boards bears a half traffic respectively. When one of them is faulty, the traffic to this main control board will switch over to the normal one, that is, the main control board in normal running bears all traffic.
