    Desktop and Go Menu Programs The Desktop The Linux image includes XFce, a desktop environment that has an Explorer-like shell (desktop) similar to typical Microsoft Windows desktop features. These features should be familiar to most users of Windows-based computers. The desktop includes a panel bar (the XFce Panel Bar), Go menu, and a background image.

    If the Auto hide check box is selected, you must move the pointer to the bottom of the screen to bring up the XFce panel bar. Icons The Linux-based thin client image does not support desktop icons. Programs must be accessed through the XFce Panel Bar. Taskbar The taskbar contains four separate workspace icons.

    The rdesktop program is an open source client for Windows NT Terminal Server and Windows 2000/2003 Terminal Services, capable of natively speaking Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) in order to present the user’s NT desktop. The rdesktop program allows you to set up and configure RDP-type client connections.

    The Console provides a dialog box with a prompt “>” for entry of various shell commands. To start the Console, select Go > Console from the desktop. The suite of commands provided are from the BusyBox suite. The specific commands currently supported can be determined once the Console dialog box is invoked.

    VNC Server The VNC server dialog box provides the capabilities of a standard X server. VNC server creates a virtual desktop which can be viewed or controlled remotely using VNC viewer. To start the VNC server dialog box, select Go > VNC server.

    Linux-based thin client image. Many of the programs are used for local administration while others, such as Network Management, are used for remote administration. To open Settings, select Go >Settings from the desktop. Date/Time The Date/Time Properties dialog box is used to set the date and current time, select the appropriate time zone, and enable NTP (Network Time Protocol).

    Desktop: backdrop The Desktop: backdrop dialog box is used to change the backdrop color or to browse for an image to use as the desktop’s backdrop. To open the Desktop: backdrop dialog box, select Go > Settings > Desktop: backdrop.

    If you set the display settings out of range, reset the terminal to factory defaults by selecting Go > Settings > System.
