MUSIC PRODUCTION and PERFORMANCE
Connect the microphone to the MIC INPUT jack on the rear panel.
Press the [MIC ON/OFF] button on the panel so that the lamp lights.
Adjust the microphone input level by using the INPUT GAIN knob.
Adjust the input gain so that the PEAK lamp flashes briefly on the loud peaks.
Select "MIC" by pressing the Knob Function buttons; then adjust the volume by using the Knob to
which VOLUME is assigned.
Use a dynamic microphone for best results. Avoid microphones that require external (Phantom) power – the
keyboard does not supply +48V required for these types of microphones. If you want to use one, you will
need to connect it to a mixer or device that can supply this voltage prior to connecting to the XS.

  • Page 2 VOCODER. Combining the resources of the two Insertion Effects into one “large” effect processor creates the S90XS/S70XS Vocoder. In VOICE mode, the Vocoder can be applied to any of the Voices – although the synthesizer provides four Voices already configured for use with the Vocoder (more in a minute).
  • Page 3 Remember: you must play and make sounds into the microphone simultaneously for the Vocoder to sound. It is NOT an effect for the vocal; it is rather using the vocal input to modify a synth sound. The settings for the A/D input are global for VOICE mode, but can be customized on a per Performance and per Multi basis.
  • Page 4 • Press [EDIT] • Select “COMMON” > press [ENTER] • Select “A/D OUT” > press [ENTER] If you select “Vocoder” you will be asked if you want to apply a Vocoder Voice to PART 1 of your PERFORMANCE - the four PRESET Vocoder voices are offered. The signal path of the A/D INPUT requires that the Vocoder PART always be PART 1.
