Choose a Good Place for Your Scanner Here are some points to consider: Place the scanner on a flat, stable surface. If the scanner is tilted, it can’t operate properly. Make sure to place the scanner where you can easily unplug the power cord, and where the SCSI cable can reach your computer.
Install the SCSI Interface Board You must install your SCSI board before installing the scanner driver and software applications. If you have a Macintosh with a SCSI interface, or if you already have a SCSI board installed in your PC, skip this section.
If you can’t slide the transportation lock easily, turn the scanner on; then, after the P OPERATE starts flashing red, turn the scanner off and try again. Always lock the scanner carriage before transporting it; otherwise, the scanner may be damaged.
Set the SCSI ID Number The scanner is preset at the factory to SCSI ID 2. If you need to change this number, turn the scanner off. Then turn the SCSI ID switch on the back panel. Be sure to choose a unique number that doesn’t conflict with the ID number of other SCSI...

Scanning Tips Getting the best scan possible depends on several factors, including the quality of your original and the resolution you select.
100 dpi with a 300 dpi laser printer, and up to 200 dpi with a 600 dpi laser printer. For 1440 dpi ink jet printers, such as the EPSON Stylus COLOR series, use a scanning resolution of up to 300 dpi. Try a scanning resolution of 240 dpi for 720 dpi printing.
You can use batch scanning to save time. Batch scanning allows you to scan several images at once, or the same image with several different settings. See “Batch Scanning” in your electronic LaserSoft SilverFast Lite User’s Guide or “Creating Multiple Marquees” in your electronic EPSON TWAIN Pro User’s Guide for more information.
It also allows you to select certain settings to optimize the scanned image. Your EPSON Expression 800 scanner comes with two drivers, EPSON TWAIN Pro and LaserSoft SilverFast Lite. Both drivers are compatible with most TWAIN-compliant programs.

Transporting the Scanner When you transport the scanner a long distance or store it for an extended time, follow the steps below to secure the carriage. 1. Make sure the transportation lock on the back of the scanner is in the position.
LOCK If you are using a transparency unit and it is switched on, the scanner carriage will not move to the home position. Remove the transparency unit first, then perform the steps above. See the next section for instructions.
CLAMP Cleaning the Scanner To keep your scanner operating at its best, you should clean it periodically. Before cleaning, unplug the power cord. Use a soft cloth to clean the outer case with mild detergent dissolved in water.

Never use alcohol, thinner, or corrosive solvent to clean the scanner. These chemicals can damage the scanner components as well as the case. Be careful not to spill liquid into the scanner mechanism or electronic components. This could permanently damage them.
