Self-timer Operation

Do not stand in front of the camera when you press the shutter button to
start the self-timer. Doing so will throw off the focus.
Use a tripod when you use the self-timer.
Before starting the self-timer, look through the viewfinder or cover it with
the eyepiece shutter (p.111).

When using the self-timer to shoot only yourself, use focus lock (p.81) for
an object at about the same distance as where you will be.
The 2-second self-timer is effective for close-ups or photo duplicating
work to prevent camera shake (camera movement while the shutter
button is pressed).

Select the self-timer mode.
Hold down the <

dial to select the desired self-timer
mode. Then let go of the buttons.

Focus the subject.
Look in the viewfinder and press the
shutter button halfway to check that
the focus confirmation light is on and
the exposure setting is displayed.

Take the picture.
Press the shutter button completely.
The self-timer lamp will start blinking
to indicate that it is counting down.
The lamp's blinking will become
faster two seconds before the picture
is taken.
