(2) Reassembly
Reassembly can be conducted by reversing the disassembly procedure. However, special attention
should be given to the following items.
• Do not reuse the Circlips [85].
• When removing Piston (M) [86], remove any carbon deposits on top of Piston (M) [86] by being
careful not to scratch the piston surface, and then use gasoline to carefully clean Piston (M) [86].
• When mounting Piston (M) [86], match the direction of the triangular arrow on the upper surface of
Piston (M) [86] to the direction of the exhaust port of the Cylinder [74].
• Insert one-third of the Piston Pin [88] into Piston (M) [86] by a hand press without tilting the Piston Pin
[88], and then mount the piston by using the J-359 jig (piston pin extraction tool ass'y).
• Match the opening of the Piston Ring (XR1-1856) [87] to the knock pin of Piston (M) [86].

14. Disassembly and reassembly of the side case
[Tools required]
• Phillips screwdriver
• Flat-blade screwdriver
• Long-nose pliers
(1) Disassembly
Remove the Side Case [121] from Engine Case Ass'y [51] and perform disassembly with the brake
being applied.
• Remove the Tapping Screw D4 x 10 [134] and Tapping Screw D3 [135], and then remove Guide Plate
(B) [131] and the Chain Puller [130].
• Remove the Brake Spring [136] while pinching the end of the spring with long-nose pliers.
• Remove the three Tapping Screws (W/Flange) D4 x 16 (Black) [140], and then remove the side case
parts including the Brake Link Cover [126].
(2) Reassembly
Reassembly can be conducted by reversing the disassembly procedure. However, special attention
should be given to the following items.
• Insert the end of the Brake Lever Spring [123] into the hole on the Brake Handle [124].
• Tighten the Brake Link Cover [126] with the three Tapping Screws (W/Flange) D4 x 16 (Black) [140],
and then attach the Brake Spring [136].
• Mount Guide Plate (B) [131] so as to match the hole on the Side Case [121].
• After reassembly, pull the Brake Handle [124] to release the brake.
