    About This Manual • The instructions in this manual describe the controls on the remote. You can also use the controls on the control unit if they have the same or similar names as those on the remote. • The Control Menu items may be different depending on the area.

  • Page 8 Note on DualDisc A DualDisc is a two sided disc product which mates DVD recorded material on one side with digital audio material on the other side. However, since the audio material side does not conform to the Compact Disc (CD) standard, playback on this product is not guaranteed.
  • Page 9 Region code Your system has a region code printed on the rear of the unit and will only play DVDs labeled with the same region code. DVD VIDEOs labeled will also play on this system. If you try to play any other DVD VIDEO, the message [Playback prohibited by area limitations.] will appear on the TV screen.

Insert two R6 (size AA) batteries by matching the 3 and # ends on the batteries to the markings inside the compartment. When using the remote, point it at the remote sensor on the control unit.

    Step 1: Assembling the system Before connecting, attach the stands to the control unit and the speakers. • We recommend that you spread a cloth on the floor to avoid damaging the floor when assembling.     Step 2: Connecting the System This hookup is the basic connection of the system. For TV connections, see pages 27 and 36. For other component connection, see page 40. Refer to the connection diagram below, and read the additional information from 1 to 6 on the following pages.
  • Page 23 Note on handling the subwoofer • Do not place your hand into the slit of the subwoofer when lifting it. The speaker driver may be damaged.     4 Connecting the Antenna (Aerial) To connect the AM antenna (aerial) The shape and the length of the antenna (aerial) is designed to receive AM signals. Do not dismantle or roll up the antenna (aerial). Remove only the loop part. Set up the AM loop antenna (aerial).

    Step 4: Positioning the System Positioning the speakers For the best possible surround sound, all the speakers other than the subwoofer should be the same distance from the listening position (A). All the speakers can be placed from 0.0 to 6.9 meters (0 to 23 ft) (A) from the listening position.
  • Page 29 • If the IR status indicator flashes orange, the IR receiver is receiving an infrared ray from another Sony’s wireless product. Move the IR transmitter and/or the surround speaker (L) so that the IR status indicator turns green.

    Getting Started – ADVANCED – Using the IR Receiver Depending on the speaker layout (i.e. when placing the surround speaker (L) toward the listening position, etc.), or when there is obstruction, such as a person or object between the IR transmitter and the IR receiver of the surround speaker (L), you can use the external IR receiver (supplied) instead.

The DVI (digital visual interface) jack will not accept any audio signals. Furthermore, you cannot connect the HDMI OUT (high-definition multimedia interface out) jack to DVI (digital visual interface) jacks that are not HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection) compliant (e.g., DVI (digital visual interface) jacks on PC displays).

    Basic Operations Playing Discs Depending on the DVD or VIDEO CD, some operations may be different or restricted. Refer to the operation details supplied with your disc.     Using the DVD’s Menu A DVD is divided into a lot of sections, which make up a picture or music feature. These sections are called “titles.” When you play a DVD which contains several titles, you can select the title you want using DVD TOP MENU.
