the mobile phone is connected to an external power source as it will
damage the UIM card.

1.2.2 Inserting the UIM card

Turn off the mobile phone and remove the battery and the external power
source.
Place the UIM card in the card slot, and ensure that the metal contact
area on the card is facing downward. The position of the card is as shown
in the figure above.
After the UIM card is properly inserted, install the battery.
