    1. Keep the number of walls and ceilings between the D-Link router and other network devices to a minimum - each wall or ceiling can reduce your adapter’s range from 3-90 feet (1-30 meters.) Position your devices so that the number of walls or ceilings is minimized.

    Note: In order to access the web configuration to enable Router Mode, you must first connect the DIR-516 to an existing network as IP addresses are not assigned dynamically in Access Point Mode. If you do not have an existing network and wish to use the DIR-516 as your primary router, you will need to connect to the access point and assign a static IP to your computer.

    Access Point Mode In Access Point Mode, the DIR-516 acts as a connection point for your wireless devices, but does not provide routing functionality. It also allows a connected wired device to connect to your other devices wirelessly. This can be useful if you already have an existing Internet router that does not have built-in wireless capabilities.

    Section 1 - Product Overview Router Mode In Router Mode, the DIR-516 connects to your cable modem, DSL modem, or other Internet source and shares your Internet connection with your devices wirelessly, providing Internet access for an entire home or office.

Many wireless devices will have a WPS button (or a software utility with WPS) that you can press to connect to the DIR-516 router.
